HONORING THE LIFE OF PEADAR FITZPATRICK2024-12-12
Mr. FITZPATRICK
Mr. FITZPATRICK. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor the remarkable life of Peadar Fitzpatrick, a beloved member of the Fitzpatrick clan, whom we sadly lost earlier this year. Born in County Leitrim, Ireland, in July of 1937, Peadar lived a life that was nothing short of extraordinary. At the age of 20, Peadar left the green hills of Ireland for the United States. He wasted no time in answering the call to serve his new country, proudly enlisting in the United States Air Force, where he served honorably from 1957 to 1962. Mr. Speaker, after leaving the Air Force, Peadar continued his civil service by joining the ranks of the New York Police Department as an officer and as a detective. In 1962, Peadar found the great love of his life, Margaret, and their marriage spanned an extraordinary 62 years. Together, they raised three remarkable daughters, Kathleen, Rose-Marie, and Colleen, and built a family that became the heart and soul of Peadar's life. Mr. Speaker, Peadar's roots in Ireland remained a cornerstone of his identity. Though he left its shores, Ireland was forever etched in his heart. Peadar Fitzpatrick was, above all, a man of immense character, devoted to his faith, his family, and his community. Today, we honor his legacy. We remember a life well lived and a man who was deeply loved. Peadar Fitzpatrick exemplified what it means to live a life of purpose, integrity, and heart. May his soul pass through old Ireland, and may his soul remain at God's right hand.

RECOGNIZING THE LIFE OF FRED POWELL2024-11-08
Mr. FITZPATRICK
Mr. FITZPATRICK. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to recognize a remarkable constituent from my district, Fred Powell, as he approaches his 103rd birthday in May 2025. With over a century of life experiences, Fred's journey is one of service, dedication, and community that deserves recognition. After his honorable discharge from the Army, Fred joined the family business, Powell's Electric Shop, which was founded in 1922 by his father and great-uncle. What began as a small appliance store on York Road in Hatboro grew over the decades into a full-service electrical company serving Bucks and Montgomery counties. Fred took the reins of the business in the 1950s, working alongside his father until he eventually purchased the business and expanded it further. Fred's dedication to Powell's Electric Shop laid the foundation for the company's success, and in 1990, after nearly 40 years of leadership, he passed the torch to his son Doug, continuing the Powell family legacy into its third generation. Today, Powell's Electric Shop remains a trusted family-owned business, with Doug at the helm, continuing to provide excellent service to the community. In his retirement, Fred enjoys spending time with his children and grandchildren. He remains an active member of his community, attending resident meetings and participating in social events at The Manor at York Town. Fred also stays connected with friends and neighbors through various programs and classes at the Manor. As we celebrate Fred Powell's incredible life over 100 years, we honor his service to our country, his contributions to the success of his family business, and his unwavering commitment to his community. Fred's legacy is one of hard work, dedication, and an enduring love for his family and friends. We are deeply grateful for his many contributions and wish him continued health and happiness in the years to come.

It is with great respect and admiration, that I recognize Romeo Angelini, one of our district's distinguished Hometown Heroes. Hometown Heroes are not defined by titles or accolades, but by the quiet power of their actions. They are distinguished by their unwavering integrity, the strength of their character, and their steadfast commitment to the people and places they serve. They are the foundation upon which our communities stand--the ones who lift others up, inspire hope, and in doing so, call us all to higher standards of service and compassion. Romeo has embodied this spirit in ways that words can scarcely capture. From a young age, Romeo recognized the most valuable gift one can give is the gift of giving back. So, since his tenth birthday, he has chosen to forgo the usual birthday festivities and dedicate his special day to a cause greater than himself. Every year, Romeo organizes and hosts food drives and fundraisers to benefit the Family Service Association of Bucks County, turning his birthday into an opportunity to uplift his community. Through these efforts, he has helped FSABC better serve the 50,000 community members who turn to them in their times of need. Romeo's remarkable dedication and commitment to serving our community have not gone unnoticed. Last October, he was recognized with the prestigious Susan N. Altomari Champion for Youth Award--an honor reserved for those who have profoundly impacted the lives of others in Bucks County. The impact of Romeo's work lies not only in the thousands of pounds of food he has helped collect but also in the poignant message it sends. It is a message of kindness, compassion, and the extraordinary power each of us holds to make a difference. Mr. Speaker, it is through the work of people like Romeo Angelini that our communities thrive and our Nation grows stronger. His service, given without expectation of recognition, stands as a testament to the belief that one individual's dedication can ripple through the lives of many, sparking change, fostering resilience, and inspiring hope. A 1955 Bristol High School graduate, Rita went on to serve as the School Secretary at Warren-Snyder Elementary. Rita went to work committed to making a difference in the students' lives, instilling in them, and sharing the values of respect and love. As a lifelong parishioner at St. Ann Church, she was a woman of deep faith and a steadfast presence at mass, novenas, and all parish events. I looked forward to seeing Rita each year at the Annual St. Ann Carnival and Italian Festival, where she served as a volunteer since its inception over twenty-five years ago. No matter where or when, Rita always made the time to engage and make genuine connections with others. As a remarkable testament to her faith and compassion Rita made it a priority to attend and was a comforting presence at the funerals of generations of Bristolians. A lifetime of what may seem like simple acts of kindness has left an indelible and extraordinary mark on the Bristol Borough community. In times of uncertainty, it is the work of individuals like Rita that reminds us of the power of the human spirit. From serving as a leader for Youth 4 Unity to her service as a member of Girl Scout Troop 21638, President of the UNICEF Club, and Lead Volunteer for Central Bucks Cares Volunteer Teens, Heera's leadership shines across various platforms. While interning in my office, Heera immersed herself in the Service Academy Nominations process, which sparked her passion and led to my great honor of nominating her to both the United States Naval Academy and the United States Military Academy at West Point. This fall, she officially began her service as a Cadet at West Point, embarking on a journey to serve our Nation with distinction. Most recently, Heera premiered her powerful short documentary, ``Veterans Voices: Female-Veterans Through History,'' a poignant tribute to the courageous women who have worn our Nation's uniform. Heera's journey is just beginning, and her impact already reverberates throughout our community. She is an inspiring example of leadership, dedication, and the power of service--setting a high standard for all who aspire to make a difference. RECOGNIZING PA-1'S HOMETOWN HERO: BILL RIDLER2024-10-29
Mr. FITZPATRICK
Mr. FITZPATRICK. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to recognize an extraordinary individual from Pennsylvania's First Congressional District--someone who has gone above and beyond the call of duty in service to both our community and our country. It is with great respect and admiration that I recognize Bill Ridler as one of our district's distinguished Hometown Heroes. Hometown Heroes are not defined by titles or accolades but by the quiet power of their actions. They are distinguished by their unwavering integrity, the strength of their character, and their steadfast commitment to the people and places they serve. They are the foundation upon which our communities stand--the ones who lift others up, inspire hope, and in doing so, call us all to higher standards of service and compassion. Bill has embodied this spirit in ways that words can scarcely capture. Bill's journey has been one full of challenges: Bill has tuberous sclerosis, a disease that causes tumors to form all over the body, reduced his one working kidney to functioning at 15 percent, causes seizures due to the tumors on his brain, high blood pressure from the ones growing in his kidneys, and on top of that chemotherapy treatment has caused him to be immunosuppressed. Yet, despite these hardships, Bill is the embodiment of joy, compassion, optimism, and resilience. Since the age of six, Bill has competed in the Special Olympics and worked tirelessly to raise awareness about the impact of the games while serving as a beacon of inspiration for those facing similar challenges. Remarkably Bill gives away his hard-earned medals to other athletes, advocates, and community members to inspire them, motivate them, and bring joy to them when they need it most. Bill's efforts earned him the prestigious Sheetz Family Award of Excellence for his resilience and dedication--an honor bestowed upon the Special Olympics athlete whose determination and efforts demonstrate the power of the human spirit to overcome obstacles and inspire greatness. Bill is a testament to the impact of positivity and a reminder that even in the face of immense challenges, we have the power to rise, inspire, and make a difference. Today, we honor Bill Ridler not just for his remarkable deeds but for who he is--a true hero in every sense of the word. On behalf of Pennsylvania's First Congressional District, I extend my deepest gratitude to Bill Ridler for his extraordinary service. I ask my colleagues to join me in honoring this exceptional individual, whose leadership and spirit of service will inspire generations to come. May his example remind us of the boundless potential within each of us to make our communities, country, and world a better place.
RECOGNIZING PA-1'S HOMETOWN HERO: ELLEN SARACINI2024-10-29
Mr. FITZPATRICK
Mr. FITZPATRICK. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to recognize an extraordinary individual from Pennsylvania's First Congressional District--someone who has gone above and beyond the call of duty in service to both our community and our country. It is with great respect and admiration that I recognize Ellen Saracini, one of our district's distinguished Hometown Heroes. Hometown Heroes are not defined by titles or accolades, but by the quiet power of their actions. They are distinguished by their unwavering integrity, the strength of their character, and their steadfast commitment to the people and places they serve. They are the foundation upon which our communities stand--the ones who lift others up, inspire hope, and, in doing so, call us all to higher standards of service and compassion. Ellen Saracini has embodied this spirit in ways that words can scarcely capture. Ellen's determination has truly moved mountains and skies and transformed tragedy into triumph. On September 11, 2001, Captain Victor Saracini was piloting United Airlines Flight 175 when his plane was hijacked and deliberately flown into the South Tower of the World Trade Center. That day, Ellen lost her husband, her daughters lost their father, and their lives forever changed. Yet, from this unimaginable sorrow, Ellen emerged as a formidable force of strength and resilience. Over the past 23 years, she has channeled her grief into powerful advocacy for aviation safety, driven by a singular mission: to ensure that no other family endures the pain she has known. Her tireless efforts have redefined air travel safety standards and ensured our pilots, crews, and passengers are safe in the skies. Since joining Congress, it has been my profound honor to partner with Ellen in that fight. In 2018, we achieved a milestone by securing my amendment in the FAA Reauthorization, mandating secondary barriers on all newly manufactured aircraft. Although we celebrated that victory, industry resistance stalled the retrofitting of existing fleets, but Ellen, with her unwavering spirit and relentless drive, would not accept defeat. We doubled down on our efforts, and earlier this year, the Saracini Enhanced Aviation Safety Act became law as part of the 2024 FAA Reauthorization. This bipartisan legislation ensures secondary barriers are now required on all aircraft--new and existing--preventing future tragedies and saving countless lives. It was a victory forged by our shared resolve and Ellen's extraordinary perseverance, strength, and courage. Ellen's determination to create lasting change did not stop there. With the same strength and resolve that carried her through unimaginable loss, she turned her grief into action once again--this time to heal our community. Ellen led the charge to establish the Garden of Reflection 9/11 Memorial, a sanctuary built to honor the 18 Bucks County residents and the 2,973 souls lost on that tragic day. Today, this beautiful 2.5-acre memorial is Pennsylvania's official 9/11 memorial and draws visitors from across our country. It serves as a place of healing, reflection, and unity--a lasting tribute only made possible through Ellen's unshakable resolve. Ellen exemplifies the profound power of resilience, strength, and purposeful action. Her unwavering commitment has revolutionized aviation safety and provided solace to countless families, demonstrating that even in our darkest hours, we can find light and enact meaningful change. In times of uncertainty, it is the work of individuals like Ellen Saracini that reminds us of the strength of the human spirit. Today, we honor Ellen Saracini not just for their remarkable deeds, but for who she is--a true hero, in every sense of the word. On behalf of Pennsylvania's First Congressional District, I extend my deepest gratitude to Ellen Saracini for her extraordinary service. I ask my colleagues to join me in honoring this exceptional individual, whose leadership and spirit of service will inspire generations to come. May their example remind us of the boundless potential within each of us to make our communities, country, and world a better place.
RECOGNIZING PA-1'S HOMETOWN HERO: JEFF BEKOS2024-10-29
Mr. FITZPATRICK
Mr. FITZPATRICK. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to recognize an extraordinary individual from Pennsylvania's First Congressional District--someone who has gone above and beyond the call of duty in service to both our community and our country. It is with great respect and admiration that I recognize Jeff Bekos. one of our district's distinguished hometown Heroes. Hometown Heroes are not defined by titles or accolades but by the quiet power of their actions. They are distinguished by their unwavering integrity the strength of their character and their steadfast commitment to the people and places they serve. They are the foundation upon which our communities stand--the ones who lift others up, inspire hope, and, in doing so, call us all to higher standards of service and compassion. Jeff has embodied this spirit in ways that words can scarcely capture. On July 5, 2013, the Bekos' lives changed forever when their vibrant 13-year-old daughter Hailey suddenly lost the ability to speak. Jeff and his wife, Liz, rushed her to the hospital, where she experienced the first of what would be thousands of seizures. In a matter of minutes, Hailey's life as a spirited cheerleader was upended, and she was diagnosed with Anti-NMDA Receptor Encephalitis--a rare disease that destroys brain cells, rendering patients unable to speak, walk, or control their movements. The weeks and months that followed were a tumultuous journey filled with countless challenges, seizures and a four-month coma. Yet, through it all, the Bekos family found hope, faith, and strength thorough the community and support at the Ronald McDonald House, where they stayed for 254 days while Hailey fought for her life. This hope was instrumental in the fight for her life, and against all odds, Hailey emerged from her coma and is thriving today. Now, Jeff is channeling his energy and gratitude into supporting families facing similar challenges. This summer, Jeff embarked on an extraordinary adventure, cycling 4,600 miles across the country from Irvine, California, to Philadelphia. The monumental endeavor, aptly coined ``One Dad's Mission,'' is part of his goal to raise $5 million for the Ronald McDonald House Charities to thank the organization that supported his family in their darkest hours and give back to other families navigating similar, unimaginable challenges. Jeff's mission is more than a fundraising effort; it is shining example of how the support of community can provide the strength and hope to rise. It is the work of individuals like Jeff that reminds us of the strength of the human spirit, turning your darkness into light, and uplifting other families facing similar challenges. Today, we honor Jeff Bekos not just for his remarkable service but for who he is--a true hero in every sense of the word. On behalf of Pennsylvania's First Congressional District, I extend my deepest gratitude to Jeff Bekos for his extraordinary service. I ask my call to join me in honoring this exceptional individual, whose leadership and spirit of service will inspire generations to come. May his example remind us of the boundless potential within each of us to make our communities, country, and world a better place.

Followng his honorable service in the Coast Guard, Jim answered the call to serve once more and embarked upon a career as a Philadelphia Police Officer. Upon retirement, his devotion to service continues in a profoundly meaningful role honoring his fellow veterans. Jim, a member of Sons of The American Legion Post 798 in Warminster, has sounded taps at more than 5,000 burials, honoring veterans at their final resting place. This act of reverence, performed with Jim's signature unwavering precision and heartfelt respect, is his way of offering a final goodbye to those who served our Nation with honor. When asked why he continues to serve in this role, he replied, ``I'm going to continue to do it until I can't.'' Jim's lifetime of service to our community and country and unwavering commitment to his fellow servicemen and women exemplify the true essence of selfless service, sacrifice, and love of country and neighbor. Mr. FITZPATRICK. They are the foundation upon our communities stand--the ones who lift others up, inspire hope, and, in doing so, call us all to higher standards of service and compassion. Joe has embodied this spirit in ways that words can scarcely capture. For over five decades, Joe has been a cornerstone of our community. As a respected funeral director and a relentless advocate for local veterans, he has been a beacon of light, a guardian of dignity, and a true pillar of support for those who have served our Nation. Joe's commitment to our community began when he and his wife, Christine, opened the Joseph A Fluehr III Funeral Home in Richboro in 1976. From the outset, their funeral home was more than a place of professional care; it became a sanctuary where families found genuine compassion and solace during their most challenging times. Joe's impact on our community extends far beyond his professional life, and his leadership has had a transformative impact on several community institutions and organizations. For over a decade, Joe served on the Board of Trustees for St. Mary Medical Center, leading as Chairman for nine of those years. Under his stewardship, St. Mary's grew into a regional hub of care, expanding its footprint, staffing, and services to become a Level II Trauma Center. In addition, Joe serves our community as a member of the Northampton Township Volunteer Fire Department, Tri-Hampton Rescue Squad Advisory Board, the Council Rock Kiwanis Invitational, Northampton Township Historical Society, and Northampton Township Business and Professional Association, where he received the recognition of ``Businessman of the Year''--a truly fitting honor for someone who has done so much for our community. Yet, perhaps Joe's most profound impact has been his unwavering advocacy for our community's veterans. From his pivotal role in establishing the Washington Crossing National Cemetery to his quiet acts of generosity personally providing urns, nameplates, and even services for our unclaimed veterans, Joe's profound contributions have ensured that the service and sacrifices of our hero veterans are honored, celebrated, and remembered for generations to come. Joe's life is a shining example of what it means to serve others with humility and grace, consistently putting others before himself. Through kindness, compassion, and unwavering commitment to serving others, Joe has shown us all what it means to live a life of purpose, to give without expecting anything in return, and to leave the world better than we found it. Joseph D'Emidio has embodied this spirit in ways that words can scarcely capture. Over the last century, Joe has demonstrated the selfless service, dedication, integrity, and patriotism that have defined the greatest generation. As the world plunged into war, at just nineteen years old, Joe answered the call of duty, enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and soon found himself on the shores of England, preparing for one of the most pivotal moments in history: the D-Day invasion. His role aboard an LST, landing on the shores of Normandy, helped turn the tide in favor of the Allied forces and secure the freedom we cherish today. But his extraordinary service did not stop there; Joe went on to play a critical role in supporting the Allied forces during the Battle of the Bulge, standing firm in the face of overwhelming adversity. Following the war, Joe returned home to his beloved Bristol Borough community, where he continued to seek ways to serve and make a difference. As a founding member of the Third District Volunteer Fire Company (and their very first Captain), Joe helped establish a legacy of protection and care that still serves Bristol today. He also founded Cameo Kitchens, a successful family-run business on Mill Street for decades, thereby shaping the future of Bristol's thriving small business community. In addition, Joe has been an integral member of the Bristol Borough Lions Club for over fifty years, where he has served his community with the same passion and spirit with which he defended our Nation and freedom.
