ANNOUNCEMENT BY THE ACTING CHAIR2023-07-13
Ms. GREENE of Georgia
Ms. GREENE of Georgia. Mr. Chair, I yield 1 minute to the gentleman from Florida (Mr. Gaetz).
Ms. GREENE of Georgia. Mr. Chair, I urge the House to pass this amendment. Our National Defense Authorization Act is for the funding of the Department of Defense. It is for our Nation, for the United States of America, and there should be no funding for a foreign war. There should be no weapons sent that increase war. As a matter of fact, it leaves bombs behind for generations to come. That hurts the Ukrainian people. For anyone to say that this must be done to help the Ukrainian people doesn't care about the innocent Ukrainian lives that will be killed for years to come from these cluster munitions. Mr. Chair, I urge the House to pass my amendment, and I yield back the balance of my time.
RAISING A QUESTION OF THE PRIVILEGES OF THE HOUSE2023-06-21
Ms. GREENE of Georgia
Ms. GREENE of Georgia. Mr. Speaker, there are a lot of things that happen here in Congress that waste the American people's hard-earned tax dollars, but one of the most outrageous wastes of hard-earned taxpayer dollars has been the Russian collusion hoax led by Adam Schiff. Adam Schiff lied to American people by leading the fake Russian witch hunt against President Trump. He weaponized the House Intelligence Committee to abuse all principles of due process and perpetuate the lies of Russian collusion, and he did that in the media over and over again. His committee conducted approximately 53 interviews during its 2017- 2018 Russia probe. These transcripts from the Director of National Intelligence, former Obama Attorney General, former Deputy Attorney General, and the FBI director, among others, proved that there was zero direct evidence of criminal conspiracy. He not only refused to release these interview transcripts, but he also continued to peddle lies to the American people that Russia interfered in the elections. He falsely claimed that Russians offered help, that the campaign accepted help, that the Russians gave help, and that the President made full use of that help when referring to allegations between President Trump and Russia during the 2016 election. In November 2020, he specifically asked Twitter to take action against spreaders of misinformation by removing content that questioned his baseless claims of Russian collusion. The biggest spreader of misinformation was Adam Schiff. As we know, the Mueller report determined there was no criminal collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. Thanks to the Durham report, we know now the entire Russian hoax was bought and paid for by Hillary Clinton and the DNC. During the probe, Schiff also abused his position on the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and violated civil liberties by subpoenaing phone records from AT&T and a former Republican colleague on an entirely baseless claim. His lies and abuse of power continued during the sham. During the Hollywood-produced January 6 Committee witch hunt, he and his staff doctored a text message between Representative Jim Jordan and former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows to deliberately manipulate information presented to the American people. What a lie. He displayed a graphic of a text message which cut a sentence in half--in half--and eliminated the final two paragraphs of a detailed legal summary that were contained in the original text message. He did this to peddle more lies to the American people and to perpetuate the fake narrative that January 6 was an insurrection, and it was not.
Ms. GREENE of Georgia. Mr. Speaker, now Adam Schiff is running for Senate in California. California has a lot of things messed up, and California is not the model that the United States needs. As a matter of fact, their government policies are atrocious. So if California decides to send Adam Schiff to the Senate, they will be sending a proven liar, and that is what he is aiming to do. He is raising money off of being a liar and running for Senate.
STOP THE WEAPONIZATION OF GOVERNMENT2023-06-12
Ms. GREENE of Georgia
Ms. GREENE of Georgia. Mr. Speaker, today I announce that I am writing an appropriations rider to defund Jack Smith, Special Counsel, his office, and the investigation. This is a weaponized government attempt to take down the top political enemy and leading Presidential candidate of the United States, Donald J. Trump. We cannot allow the government to be weaponized for political purposes. I would also ask all of my colleagues to join me in this effort. We have to use the power of appropriations to stop the weaponization of government, especially in light that we know that there are others who are guilty of true crimes. Never forget that former Secretary of State and Senator Hillary Clinton had classified documents on Anthony Weiner's laptop, who was convicted of sexting a minor inappropriate pictures. This is not how classified documents should be handled. There should have been an investigation done into that. Don't forget Joe Biden's documents that are sitting in his garage next to his Corvette where the door opens and closes. Mr. Speaker, America sees this for exactly what it is, and we will not allow it to stand.
ARTICLES OF IMPEACHMENT2023-05-23
Ms. GREENE of Georgia
Ms. GREENE of Georgia. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to provide a report to the United States House of Representatives that Americans support impeachment. Last week, I introduced Articles of Impeachment against five people who have abused the power of their positions and provided corruption and disservice to the American people. I introduced Articles of Impeachment against U.S. Attorney Matthew Graves at the Department of Justice. Matthew Graves refuses to prosecute 67 percent of the crimes in Washington, D.C., and abuses his office in a political pursuit of people who he deems political enemies while persecuting people for January 6, people who just walked through the Capitol. Matthew Graves must be impeached. He should prosecute criminals in Washington, D.C., that commit all kinds of crimes every single day, not care about the one day when people have already been arrested and are rotting in jail. Last week, I introduced Articles of Impeachment against FBI Director Christopher Wray. By turning the FBI into Joe Biden and Merrick Garland's personal police force, Chris Wray has made himself a lackey of the regime. Under Wray's watch, the FBI has intimidated, harassed, and entrapped American citizens that have been deemed enemies of the Biden regime. The FBI even raided Mar-a-Lago on August 8 of 2022 in an unconstitutional raid of a former President's home. FBI whistleblower Garret O'Boyle told congressional investigators the FBI created a terrorist threat tag following the Dobbs Supreme Court decision in 2022. O'Boyle confirmed that the purpose of the tag was to target pro-life individuals, and now Wray has weaponized the FBI against his own agents. These brave FBI whistleblowers have been stripped of their salaries and their security clearances simply for coming forward and bravely telling the truth. FBI Director Christopher Wray must be impeached. I introduced Articles of Impeachment against Attorney General Merrick Garland. Since Merrick Garland took over as Attorney General in March of 2021, he has completely weaponized the Department of Justice. The politicization of the Department of Justice has resulted in the persecution of the left's political enemies and a real two-tiered justice system in America. Garland has used the FBI as a personal police force for his boss, Joe Biden. The Department of Justice's persecution of Joe Biden's primary political adversary, Donald J. Trump, is antidemocratic. Raiding the former President's home for legally declassified documents is a transparent violation of justice. Persecuting a declared candidate for President of the United States is nothing short of election interference. Not only that, from investigating parents who protest their local school boards to going after pro-life activists and Catholics, Merrick Garland must be impeached. What I will tell the House of Representatives today is a Rasmussen poll was released just last week indicating that 53 percent of voters in America--Republicans, Independents, and Democrats--support the impeachment of Joe Biden for high crimes and misdemeanors. I introduced Articles of Impeachment on Joe Biden last week because of the national security crisis at our border. I also introduced Articles of Impeachment against Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for failing to do his duty to secure America's border, but he is only doing the bidding of his boss, Joe Biden. At 5 p.m. yesterday, I simply released a survey on my social media asking: Do you support impeachment? Mr. Speaker, 8,600 people responded, and that was just from 5 p.m. last night. Mr. Speaker, 77 percent said, yes, they support impeachment. Only 23 percent opposed. If anyone reads the comments on my Twitter account, you know for sure it is not just Republicans that follow me. Joe Biden has deliberately compromised our national security by refusing to enforce immigration laws and secure our border. He has allowed nearly 6 million illegals from over 170 countries to invade our country. He has caused an approximate 1,700 percent increase in border encounters in just one sector of our northern border. Under his reign, there have been approximately 1.4 million known got- aways who have evaded U.S. authorities. He has allowed fentanyl, the number one killer of Americans between the ages of 18 and 45, to overwhelmingly flood into our country and kill over 300 Americans every single day. Joe Biden should be impeached. In my district alone, we have had an increase of 350 percent of fentanyl murders. Joe Biden must be impeached.
SECURE THE BORDER ACT OF 20232023-05-10
Ms. GREENE of Georgia
Ms. GREENE of Georgia. Mr. Speaker, I remind everyone that Republicans believe in legal immigration. As a matter of fact, we are very proud of our former first lady, Melania Trump, who immigrated legally to the United States. There is a clear difference in policies when we talk about border security for the United States of America. I think it is very important to remind my colleagues across the aisle what our oath of office actually says. We swear an oath that we will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. That is a very important oath to swear, and it is one to uphold, but this was not being upheld in the past 2 years under this administration. We have seen nearly 5 million people cross our border, and it is unsustainable. As a matter of fact, on Monday, a record was set for border apprehensions. Just yesterday, that record was defeated because they had even more border apprehensions. Two records, and I don't even know what today is yet. We don't have the numbers, but soon we will know. The clear difference between Democrats and Republicans, when we talk about border security and about these policies, is that Democrats don't serve Americans. They serve migrants. They serve foreign countries and their borders, but not Americans, American tax dollars, and America's border. As a matter of fact, according to the Border Patrol Chief, five out of the nine sectors are out of control and in the hands of the cartels. Yet, the most important thing the Democrats across the aisle are attacking is the Second Amendment and taking away Americans' guns because they are claiming that will keep Americans safe from the cartels. That is insanity. Democrats serve migrants so much that they are interested in bringing more into the country. When they talk about hiring more Border Patrol agents, it is because they want Border Patrol agents to be the welcoming committee. H.R. 2, which I strongly support, hires more Border Patrol agents and gives them bonuses so that they can do the job that they were hired to do, which is to protect our southern border and, by the way, the lives of migrants who are dying nearly every single day as they try to cross our border. It is really interesting. Unfortunately, this administration and the Democrats serve migrants so much more than Americans, and it seems that Biden serves any country that is willing to write him a check as long as they make it payable to the Biden family LLCs. How about that? Title 42 lifts tomorrow.
SYRIA WAR POWERS RESOLUTION2023-03-08
Ms. GREENE of Georgia
Ms. GREENE of Georgia. Mr. Speaker, I have the great privilege of serving with many veterans here in Congress, and to them, I am so grateful for their service. This is also why I rise in support for this resolution, to pull our great military from Syria. I would point out, on the official website for the U.S. Department of Defense, when it tells who the Department of Defense is on the ``about'' page, it says: We are your defense. The Department of Defense is America's largest government agency. With our military tracing its roots back to prerevolutionary times, the Department has grown and evolved with our Nation. Our mission is to provide the military forces needed to deter war and ensure our Nation's security. That is the job of our Department of Defense, not to wage war in foreign lands and foreign countries at the expense of the American taxpayer. It is to deter war. It is also the role of the Department of Defense to ensure our Nation's security, but our border is being ignored. Every single day, our border is invaded by thousands, and over 300 Americans die daily from fentanyl brought into our country by Mexican cartels. I would say those are the enemies we need to be focusing on, not in a country called Syria where no one in my district ever demands: ``Marjorie, we must go to war in Syria.'' I never hear that request from anyone who voted for me. As a matter of fact, the veterans in my district say: We are sick and tired of foreign wars. We are fed up with it, and too many of our American military have died in foreign lands serving their foreign borders and their foreign causes. I thank my colleague, Matt Gaetz, for introducing this resolution, and I strongly encourage all of my colleagues to support it.
CHILDREN'S INNOCENCE MUST BE PROTECTED2023-03-07
Ms. GREENE of Georgia
Ms. GREENE of Georgia. Mr. Speaker, today I announce that I am reintroducing my bill, the Protect Children's Innocence Act. This bill will stop gender-affirming care on children. It will protect children from the heinous and evil ideology that is grooming kids and making a profit off of horrific surgeries that mutilate their genitals, give them life-altering medications like puberty blockers, hormone therapy that will have permanent damage to their bodies for the rest of their lives before these kids are even grown up, before they have graduated from high school, before they are old enough to vote, before they are old enough to get a tattoo--ink on their own skin--before they are old enough to join the military, before they are old enough to make adult decisions. This is an important bill that Congress must pass. My bill will charge any person who knowingly performs gender- affirming care on a minor with a Class C felony. It will prohibit all taxpayer-funded gender-affirming care. It will prohibit institutions of higher education from providing instruction on gender-affirming care. There is nothing affirming about lying to children that they can change their gender because you cannot change your gender. My bill will deem aliens who are determined to have performed gender- affirming care on a minor as ineligible to receive visas or be admitted into the United States. We need to take a strong stand in the United States of America that we do not abuse our children or sexualize them in any way. This is an important bill that must be passed, and I will give you some examples. In 2021, there was a father in Texas who lost custody of his twin 7- year-old sons because he attempted to stop one of the boys from transitioning his gender. The mother began transitioning the boy when he was only 2 years old and then tried to enroll him in a pediatric gender clinic at age 5. This child, this young boy, needs to be protected, and his father has the rights to do it. They didn't give him his rights. Last summer, Boston Children's Hospital released videos promoting gender dysphoria and offering sterilization, castration, and mutilation of children. These videos not only explained its genital mutilation surgeries, but they were also promoting these surgeries to kids and their parents. By the way, this is for profit. Also, just recently, Jamie Reed, who worked at one of more than 100 pediatric gender clinics across the United States, publicly came out to discuss the atrocities happening to children at these gender clinics. When a female takes testosterone, the profound and permanent effects of the hormone can be seen in a matter of months. Voices drop, beards sprout, body fat is redistributed, sexual interest explodes, aggression increases, and mood can be unpredictable. One of the side effects includes sterility. As a matter of fact, after only 4 to 5 years of taking testosterone, there have been many young women under the age of 18 that have had to have hysterectomies because of the damage done inside of them. Even more horrific is the Governor of California, Gavin Newsom, signed a bill into law to provide refuge for trans kids and their families. This bill will protect trans kids and their families that flee to California from States like Alabama, Texas, or Idaho, or any other State criminalizing the parents of trans kids for allowing them to receive gender-affirming care. My bill will protect these children and stop a State like California and the monsters and the groomers and the child predators in that State that look to damage them before they ever grow up. There are many States that are working hard to protect kids, but we don't have enough States doing it. That is why it is the responsibility of Republicans in Congress to protect children. This is imperative. We know what the left is trying to do, and we should have listened to them when they told us. Remember the San Francisco men's choir actually singing a song announcing that they are coming for our children? That is a threat that we should not ignore. We have had enough with drag queen shows in elementary schools and middle schools and high schools. We have had enough of drag queens gyrating in front of children in the public square. These groomers and child predators must be stopped because they are sexualizing children for profit in a multibillion-dollar medical industry that looks to grow and grow. Something must be done to protect the sacred identity of children because God made children and God made all of us, male and female, in His image, and God doesn't make mistakes. I urge every single Republican and all Members of Congress to cosponsor my bill. We must get it passed. This isn't just a Republican issue. This is an issue across the board. All voters agree.
ANTIFA SHOULD BE DESIGNATED AS A DOMESTIC TERRORIST ORGANIZATION2023-03-07
Ms. GREENE of Georgia
Ms. GREENE of Georgia. Mr. Speaker, I announce that I am introducing a House Resolution to designate antifa as a domestic terrorist organization. America has had enough of these terrorists. Just this past weekend, antifa-affiliated rioters set fire to the future Atlanta police training facility by attacking it, an organized attack that is all captured on video. Molotov cocktails and other destructive items, fireworks were fired at police officers, and the construction site was set on fire causing much damage. There were over 30 people arrested. Now, here is the issue: only two of them were actually from Georgia. The rest of them were from other places in the country, and several of them were from other countries like France and Canada. One of them happened to be an attorney for the Southern Poverty Law Center. That is disgraceful. This all comes on the heels of antifa terrorizing Americans for years now. Never forget in the summer of 2020, antifa caused over $2 billion in damage; setting fires to cities, businesses, attacking police officers, and killing people. Yet over 95 percent of those arrested had their charges dropped.
ENERGY CYBERSECURITY UNIVERSITY LEADERSHIP ACT OF 20232023-02-06

Ms. GREENE of Georgia. Mr. Speaker, on rollcall No. 107, I mistakenly voted ``yea'' when I intended to vote ``nay.''
FREEDOM FOR HEALTH CARE WORKERS ACT2023-01-31
Ms. GREENE of Georgia
Ms. GREENE of Georgia. Mr. Speaker, I rise in support of the Freedom for Health Care Workers Act. I would like to take a minute to reflect on what one of my colleagues was talking about across the aisle, and that is about having the ability to choose when it comes to abortion. Yet, here are mandates that have been forced on our healthcare workers since the vaccines have been introduced through the Democrats and through the Biden administration, and it has been devastating for our healthcare industry. It is pretty hypocritical to talk about abortion rights for healthcare workers in the workplace when they are completely against the ability of healthcare workers, who I would call the experts-- doctors, nurses, and people who work in the healthcare field. They have the right to choose when it comes to the vaccines. Mandates are tyrannical and they need to end. The COVID pandemic is over, and I am glad Republicans are making sure that we declare that this week on the House floor. I would also point out that we have a severe shortage of healthcare workers, many of whom were heroes who worked on the front lines saving lives throughout this pandemic who have said they don't want a vaccine, they do not want to take it, and they want to trust their own natural immunity. We need to give these healthcare workers the right to choose their natural immunity and not be forced to take a jab or a vaccine that they know they do not need and they do not want. We believe in freedom here in the Republican Conference. We believe in freedom for Americans. We believe in freedom for the healthcare workers of this country.
STRATEGIC PRODUCTION RESPONSE ACT2023-01-27
Ms. GREENE of Georgia
Ms. GREENE of Georgia. Mr. Chairman, I have an amendment at the desk.
Ms. GREENE of Georgia. Mr. Chair, I have an amendment at the desk.
Ms. GREENE of Georgia. Mr. Chair, yesterday I introduced an amendment that would take away the President's emergency power to sell our oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and give that authority back to Congress. Since Joe Biden has become President, he has abused his emergency power and sold American oil to our enemies. China was the number one buyer. President Biden abused his power to sell our oil and reduce gas prices so that the midterm elections would swing Democrats' way. It is a shame to trick the American people just to win an election. No President should be able to use their emergency powers for politics. While my amendment failed yesterday, it opened up discussions on how to solve this problem. While our leadership was working with me to protect America's Strategic Petroleum Reserve, Democrats and the mocking Hill media were making fun of me for having a failed amendment. I want to say this: True success comes through failure. There is one thing that needs to be pointed out about our new Republican majority: We are much different than Republican majorities of the past. We aren't afraid of conflict, of disagreements in the public's eye. We have already proven that. What all of us are afraid of is not being a successful Republican majority for the American people and stopping the Democrats' America last policies. What our Republican majority will continue to show the country and the mocking media, in the words of our new, great Republican Speaker: ``It's not how you start, it's how you finish.'' Today, I am introducing a new amendment that would prevent President Biden, or any President, from selling our strategic oil reserves for political reasons. The American people don't believe President Biden should have the sole authority to sell our oil for whatever reason he comes up with. President Biden's war on American energy has crippled our country and left us vulnerable to an economic crisis and a national security crisis. There is no reason the President should be able to sell one of our most strategic resources for political gain. Instead, the President should unleash American energy at home. I urge my colleagues to support my amendment. Mr. Chair, I yield to the gentleman from South Carolina (Mr. Duncan).
Ms. GREENE of Georgia. Mr. Chair, I yield back the balance of my time.
Ms. GREENE of Georgia. Mr. Chair, my Democrat colleague across the aisle pointed out exactly what I was saying, that the entire reason why President Biden released our very precious oil--that the American people paid for with their hard-earned tax dollars for our emergency reserves--the reason why it was released was to reduce gas prices before an election. Our Democrat colleague completely admits that. He then goes on to blame the war in Ukraine for the reason that we have a low supply. Talk about serious. Let's talk about the most unserious decisions: that the Senate would not take up this bill to protect the American Strategic Petroleum Reserves; that the Senate would not take up this bill and pass my amendment to stop any President, Democrat or Republican, from selling oil out of our SPR for political reasons; and to imagine that President Biden would say that he would not consider this bill. President Biden is telling America that he doesn't care about our emergency supply or our national security. President Biden gives a serious, clear message to the American people that he will destroy the fossil fuel energy industry and that that will hurt every single American. There are no politics that can play with that. Mr. Chair, I urge my colleagues to pass my amendment and H.R. 21.
Ms. GREENE of Georgia. Mr. Chairman, plans are extremely important, but, unfortunately, our President has given us no plan on how he will replace all of the oil--very important oil--that has been sold out of our Strategic Petroleum Reserve. The American people are trapped on a journey in this country. The American people work hard every single day and pay their taxes, and their taxes have been abused. Their tax dollars were used to fill up the supply in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, and in 2 years' time, this President has sold out America by selling our Strategic Petroleum Reserves and creating a national security crisis for all of America. I am introducing an amendment today that will require a leasing plan from day one of President Biden's Presidency, Inauguration Day, when this bill is enacted into law. President Biden will have to come up with a plan to tell the American people how he will clean up his mess and refill America's SPR. Mr. Chairman, I urge my colleagues to support this amendment, and I yield back the balance of my time. Point of Order
STRATEGIC PRODUCTION RESPONSE ACT2023-01-26
Ms. GREENE of Georgia
Ms. GREENE of Georgia. Mr. Chair, I have amendment No. 2 at the desk.
Ms. GREENE of Georgia. Mr. Chair, before I discuss the details of my amendment, I want to applaud the new Republican majority for giving Members the opportunity to offer amendments in a more open process. The people's House has been broken for far too long, and I look forward to working with my colleagues in an open process for the remainder of this Congress. I also want to thank Chairwoman McMorris-Rodgers for her leadership on this issue to put American energy first. I cosponsored this legislation because I believe it puts America back on track to regain energy independence. This is such an important issue and critical piece of legislation that I believe we cannot stop short. We need to chart a path back to energy independence and ensure President Biden is not able to sell our critical oil supplies to China or any other rogue nation. President Biden used emergency authorities to sell hundreds of millions of barrels of oil to our enemies. My amendment would prevent President Biden from claiming an emergency to further reduce our strategic oil supplies. This is why I filed impeachment articles last Congress against President Biden on the grounds that he endangered, compromised, and undermined the energy security of the United States by selling oil from the United States' Strategic Petroleum Reserve to foreign nations. President Biden has demonstrated that he will remain a threat to the national security of our country. No President in the history of the United States has ordered a liquidation of the SPR on this scale. He sold 40 percent of our critical oil supply to trick and deceive the American people before the election. Rather than unleashing American energy here at home, he has robbed our country. When President Biden took office in 2021, the SPR contained 638 million barrels of oil. Since then, he has slashed our oil inventory to 371 million barrels. He has decimated the SPR to the lowest level since December, 1983, before some Members of this body were even born. He shredded the offers from oil companies to resupply the reserve. He gave away 7 million barrels of our oil to a Communist Chinese state-run energy firm. The CCP had 1.2 billion barrels when Biden took office, they have even more now. I cannot believe our President did that. If we let President Biden continue to run our oil this way, we will have nothing left. This has destroyed America's oil production. President Biden shut down the Keystone XL pipeline, destroying hundreds of thousands of American jobs. President Biden has allowed the least amount of federal land for drilling since the end of World War II. We are now producing 1 million barrels of oil less every day compared to when President Trump was in office. Every country faces natural disasters. Where will we get our oil next time we are in crisis? Whom will we have to beg to get our oil? China? Iran? The Saudis? Venezuela--like the Biden administration has already done? Or maybe even Russia? President Biden's actions prove an intentional plot to destroy America's oil industry and usher in the climate cult's Green New Deal. My amendment would simply strike the exceptions that Biden used to sell our oil. The American people don't believe that the President should have the authority to declare an emergency for any reason and then sell our oil to our enemies. Mr. Chair, I urge my colleagues to support my amendment, and I yield back the balance of my time.
Ms. GREENE of Georgia. Mr. Chair, I demand a recorded vote.
REMEMBERING JUDGE HAROLD MURPHY2023-01-26
Ms. GREENE of Georgia
Ms. GREENE of Georgia. Madam Speaker, I rise today to honor a man who devoted his life to the service and protection of our Nation, Judge Harold Murphy. Born in Felton, Georgia, in 1927, Judge Murphy attended West Georgia College before serving in the Navy toward the end of World War II. He resumed his studies at the University of Mississippi and the University of Georgia's School of Law, where he graduated in 1949. He began a law practice in Haralson County, Georgia, and in 1950 was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives as the youngest member at that time. Judge Murphy served five consecutive terms before stepping down in 1961 to focus on practicing law. In 1971, Judge Murphy was appointed by Governor Jimmy Carter to the Superior Court for the Tallapoosa Judicial Circuit. Following his election in 1976, President Carter nominated Judge Murphy to the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. He was confirmed by the Senate on July 28, 1977. For 45 years, he served his country on the Federal bench and became an acclaimed jurist and legal icon with a stellar reputation that extended far beyond Georgia. He always displayed a quick wit and a keen sense of humor, was kind and empathetic, and treated all those who appeared before him with courtesy and respect. Judge Murphy once subpoenaed a talking myna bird who had ``witnessed'' a store robbery to testify in court. Judge Murphy's humor was only surpassed by his fairness and prudential impartiality. In fact, he is the only judge that was known to receive Christmas cards from inmates in prison that Judge Murphy himself had put away. He was so excruciatingly fair and impartial that during one case he even talked the defendant out of a guilty plea. Judge Murphy worked tirelessly and carried a full docket until the age of 90, when he took senior judge status in the Northern District of Georgia. He continued to preside over cases until his death on December 28, 2022. Judge Murphy received many professional awards and recognitions, including from the State Bar of Georgia and the University of Georgia School of Law. In 2014, Alabama State University renamed its graduate school after Judge Murphy in recognition of his landmark ruling in Knight v. Alabama, a long-running case that the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals asked him to handle involving the vestiges of racial segregation then present in the Alabama University system. Above all else, Judge Murphy was a loving and devoted husband and father, and a strong role model who made everyone who knew him in northwest Georgia proud. The daily sight of Judge Murphy leading his gaggle of clerks to lunch on Broad Street will be deeply missed by the community in Rome that he loved so much and that loved him back. The people of the 14th District of Georgia therefore urge the House to pass this bill to name the building at 600 East First Street in Rome, Georgia, the Harold L. Murphy Federal Building and United States Courthouse.
CONGRATULATING THE UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA BULLDOGS2023-01-12
Mrs. GREENE of Georgia
Mrs. GREENE of Georgia. Madam Speaker, today, I congratulate my alma mater, the University of Georgia, on their dominating victory over the TCU Horned Frogs in Monday's national championship. Last year, the Bulldogs ended a four-decade-long national championship drought. This year, they became the first team in the playoff era to win back-to-back titles. Coach Kirby Smart has built an incredible program with incredible players, several of which are from Georgia's 14th District. Ladd McConkey, a graduate of North Murray High School in Murray County, Georgia, has started as wide receiver for two seasons at UGA. During his time as a Bulldog, he has amassed over 1,300 total yards and 15 total touchdowns, two of which came on Monday night. Ladd is not the only outstanding player from Georgia-14. Tate Ratledge of Rome, Smael Mondon, Jr., of Dallas, Cole Speer of Calhoun, CJ Washington of Cedartown, Jonathan Washburn of Ringgold, and Cade Brock from Darlington School have all made our district proud. Go Dawgs.
EXPRESSING THE SENSE OF CONGRESS CONDEMNING THE RECENT ATTACKS ON PRO- LIFE FACILITIES, GROUPS, AND CHURCHES2023-01-11
Mrs. GREENE of Georgia
Mrs. GREENE of Georgia. Madam Speaker, I rise in support of this resolution. Being a mother is the greatest gift in the world, and childbirth is a true miracle of God. In 2019, pregnancy centers served roughly 2 million women, men, and youth. They provided services such as medical care, education, mentoring, and material support like diapers, car seats, and clothing. From 2016 through 2020, pro-life pregnancy centers partnered with pregnant women at risk for abortion to save over 800,000 lives. Approximately 75 percent of women at risk for abortion who view an ultrasound of their baby in the womb at a pregnancy center ultimately make the choice to continue their pregnancy. Merrick Garland calls parents who want to protect their kids from sexual indoctrination in schools domestic terrorists but refuses to protect facilities that help pregnant women carry their babies from being attacked by far-left extremists. Since the Dobbs decision was leaked in May 2022 alone, approximately 40 churches and 60 pro-life pregnancy centers have been firebombed and vandalized across the country by pro-murder extremists. The costs of damages for each attack range from less than $100 to more than $250,000. Shameful. Some of the things they have said--they have spray-painted on a church in Lansing, Michigan, ``abort the court'' and ``death to Christian nationalism.'' Death for Christians that care about our country? I don't think so. They also caused $50,000 in damages in Bethesda, Maryland, setting fire to three churches. It is shameful. Jane's Revenge, which is a terrorist group, said: ``If abortion isn't safe neither are you.'' Madam Speaker, I urge my colleagues to vote ``yes'' on this resolution.
AMERICANS DESERVE TRANSPARENCY AND OVERSIGHT2022-12-07
Mrs. GREENE of Georgia
Mrs. GREENE of Georgia. Mr. Speaker, since 9/11 over 13.5 million border encounters have occurred at our border. Over 1 million Americans have died from drug overdoses, and CNN reports that the cartels take in $19 to $29 billion annually from drug sales to the United States of America. Since 9/11 the United States has spent $8 trillion on foreign wars, and over 7,000 U.S. servicemembers have died defending foreign lands and foreign borders. Now we have sent over $50 billion to Ukraine, and President Biden wants another $37 billion to Ukraine. This will be pushing it to over $90 billion. Yesterday Democrats voted ``no'' on my House resolution to audit Ukraine. The American people deserve transparency and oversight on where their money is going. I also want to point out that America deserves our borders to be defended so that if we are going to support any war, we should support a war on the cartels that are killing Americans and invading our country.
