CHANGING HEALTH INSURANCE MARKET2025-12-18

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS. Mr. Speaker, I thank Representative Fedorchak for adding her voice to this very important debate. Mr. Speaker, I yield to the gentleman from Missouri (Mr. Onder), the doctor, for his ideas on how we reform our system.

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS. Mr. Speaker, I yield to the gentleman from North Carolina (Mr. Moore), the Representative of the 14th District. He is the former speaker of the house of North Carolina and my current colleague on the Financial Services Committee.

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS. Mr. Speaker, I thank the Congressman for those generous comments. Mr. Speaker, I yield to the gentleman from North Carolina (Mr. Knott), the 13th Congressional District, for comments. All Things Work Together For Good

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS. Mr. Speaker, I thank Congressman Knott, and she will not be forgotten. Broken ObamaCare System

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS. Mr. Speaker, I thank Congressman Knott, Congressman Crank, Congressman Downing, Congressman Onder, Congresswoman Fedorchak, and also Congressman Moore for their comments today about the broken ObamaCare system. It is simply that; it is broken. It is the reason why they have been subsidizing a broken system for a long time, at the expense of so many Americans and so many potential innovations, as well. As this issue has been talked about very well today, I just want to remind people of where we were versus where we are. The Democrats had the opportunity to make this a permanent plan. They did not have the votes or the will to get it done. They also had the opportunity to reduce taxes on tips. They had the opportunity to reduce the taxes on overtime. They had the opportunity to reduce taxes on Social Security, all of which are earned. Those are not welfare programs. Those are programs that are earned. When they had the power, they chose to do nothing. This year, when we were passing the big, beautiful bill back in July, we had the opportunity again to reduce costs for this broken system. The Republicans put forth in this body a CSR. What happened here? They used the Byrd rule in the United States Senate to fight what would have reduced rates by 11 percent. Let's break away from this discussion about affordability. Let's talk about reality. This is purely politics. Their votes have been shown throughout the year. They care nothing about results. They care everything about politics. Candidly, maybe Republicans aren't as good at politics as the Democrats, but we are pushing policies that work and are based in reality. That is what this push has been about today, laying out the facts for the American public to say this system is untenable, and it only undercuts what could be the best system in the world. There has been so much discussion about the 22 to 24 million people on ObamaCare. We all found out today that half of them might be phantom enrollees. We found out that the future is not bright when you look at the contrast of what it is doing to the remainder of the people who are paying for their own healthcare system. There are 165 million people who have employer-based systems that they most likely contribute to or pay out of their own pocket. They are paying $1,500 to $2,000 a month, and they have to subsidize a broken system on top of it and crowd out a medical system in the process. All we are asking from the other side is to say let's start doing some commonsense things. The number one thing I would like to see us do is simply do income verification so that those people who pay full freight and subsidize the system know that the people who are being helped are actually people truly in need who qualify for a program, instead of giving it away. It is simple identification checks, just like we have asked the Democrats to do on things like voting, just like we have asked the Democrats to do on simple ideas to make things work again, so that when you pay your taxes, which are quite exorbitant, in my opinion, people know they are actually going to help people. Mr. Speaker, I appreciate your indulgence this afternoon as we get ready to celebrate the holiday season.

RECOGNIZING FLORIDA TECH PANTHERS2025-12-16

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to recognize the extraordinary achievement by a team who represents the very best of the space coast, our State, the Florida Tech Panthers, the 2025 NCAA Division II women's soccer national champions. With a decisive 3-0 victory over Franklin Pierce, these student- athletes captured their first national title in program history. This championship was earned through discipline, teamwork, and an unwavering commitment to excellence--values that extend well beyond the soccer field. I applaud the players, coaches, staff, and families who supported this team at every step of the way. Their hard work and leadership exemplify what college athletics is all about: strong competition, strong teammates, and future strong leaders. Florida Tech Panthers made history and made our community proud. I congratulate our national champions. Go Panthers. Recognizing Air Force Master Sergeant John ``Jay'' Johnson

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor Brevard County's Veteran of the Month for December 2025, Master Sergeant John ``Jay'' Johnson of the United States Air Force. Master Sergeant Johnson entered service in 1961 and spent 20 years defending our Nation, retiring at the distinguished rank of master sergeant. He served as a direction finding controller and Morse intercept operator, critical roles in intelligence and national security efforts during some of the most challenging times during the Cold War and the Vietnam war. Nearly 12 of his 20 years of service was spent overseas, including assignments in Germany, Italy, Turkiye, Japan, and the Philippines. His dedication and professionalism earned him numerous commendations, including the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, each a testament to his commitment to our Nation and his exceptional service to our Nation. Master Sergeant Johnson embodies the very best of our Air Force and our country. We thank him for his unwavering commitment to duty and for his dedicated service for decades in defending freedom around the world and here at home.

RECOGNIZING THE SEVENTEENTH ANNUAL FAMILY CHRISTMAS EXTRAVAGANZA2025-12-15

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS. Mr. Speaker, on Saturday, December 20, 2025, families from across Brevard County will come together at Fred Poppe Regional Park in Palm Bay, Florida, to celebrate the Seventeenth Annual Family Christmas Extravaganza--an event that embodies the very best of our community during the Christmas season. This annual tradition is made possible through the collaboration of faith-based organizations, including The House Church, Eastwind Pentecostal Church, Jornada al Cielo, Wings of Grace Ministries, and CITA Rescue Mission, all of whom have united to serve families and spread hope, generosity, and goodwill. Working alongside dedicated community and business partners, including the City of Palm Bay Parks & Recreation, Thrifty Specialty Produce, Chick-Fil-A, Cocina Cafe, Health First Hospital, Gator Automotive, Frog Bones-Family Shooting Center, Z88.3FM, All Digital All Day, Grifols Plasma Distribution Center, Toys for Tots North and South Area, Al Dia Today Newspaper, Martin's Famous Potato Rolls, and Premiere Oaks 10 Cinema, the mission of this event is simple but powerful: to create a welcoming place where families can celebrate Christmas, give back, and support one another. More than sixty local businesses and organizations have stepped up with donations of toys, food, gift certificates, equipment, and financial support. The Extravaganza will also feature musicians and artists such as Carl Lewis & Intensity Band, Host Eddie Anthony as Eddie Frost, Co-Host Aleshka Ortiz as Aleshka Bell, along with Jolly Jo Jo, Snowflake Lilly, and Johan the Elf CEO (Chief Elf Officer), and Corey Sprenkle with S & S Sound. As Senior Pastor Ken Delgado of The House at Palm Bay so eloquently put it, at a time when our Nation often feels divided, ``[. . .] it is exciting to see the City of Palm Bay, along with the city's businesses and the citizens, create an event where love, joy, and peace are expressed.'' Mr. Speaker, the spirit of the holidays is about generosity, service, and time spent with loved ones. The Family Christmas Extravaganza reflects those values and highlights what is possible when a community comes together in the service of others. I ask my colleagues to join me in recognizing and commending the volunteers, faith leaders, businesses, and community partners who have worked tirelessly to make the Seventeenth Annual Family Christmas Extravaganza a success and to spread the true spirit of Christmas throughout Brevard County.

DISINTERMENT OF REMAINS OF FERNANDO V. COTA FROM FORT SAM HOUSTON NATIONAL CEMETERY, TEXAS2025-12-10

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS. Mr. Speaker, I thank the chairman for yielding. Mr. Speaker, I rise in support of the NDAA, which is designed to strengthen Federal authorities in detecting and mitigating dangerous drone activities. Unmanned aircraft systems, while offering significant potential for innovation, also present a clear and present risk to the public. This issue is especially urgent in Florida, which is home to some of the busiest seaports in America. Drone attacks on a major seaport would pose a serious threat to our national security. I appreciate the good work done in the bill.

INCREASING INVESTOR OPPORTUNITIES ACT2025-12-10

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS. Mr. Chair, I rise in support of H.R. 3383, the Increasing Investor Opportunities Act. Our country did not get to the top of the world by playing it safe. We got here by putting capital to work, the very engine that former Fed Chair Alan Greenspan wrote about in ``Capitalism in America.'' Our capital markets are the fuel and, ultimately, the rocket boosters for innovation, and this bill, the INVEST Act, launches economic growth. I am also proud that my bill, the Greenlighting Growth Act, is a part of this package, ripping away the red tape that has strangled emerging companies in the JOBS Act. There are no more bureaucratic handcuffs. Instead, we are giving startups the engine they need to grow. We are fortunate to have Chair Hill and Chair Wagner's leadership on this laser-focused bill. They do not just talk about innovation. They have delivered it with this legislation. This bill will make sure America's capital markets drive down costs, lift up families, and keep us the number one place to do business in the world. This is not theory. This is the American blueprint for prosperity in action. Let's pass this good bill and greenlight the future.

PERSONAL EXPLANATION2025-12-03

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS. Mr. Speaker, due to the death of Deputy Sheriff Terri Sweeting-Mashkow and my attendance at her funeral, I had to miss votes on December 1 and 2, 2025, for Roll Call Nos. 306, 307, 308, and 309. Deputy Sheriff Sweeting-Mashkow died in the line of duty while serving an eviction notice when she was shot and killed. This is the second death of an active-duty Indian River County police officer in the department's nearly 100-year history. This horrific incident highlights the importance of supporting local law enforcement officers. Had I been present, I would have voted YEA on Roll Call No. 306; YEA on Roll Call No. 307; YEA on Roll Call No. 308; and YEA on Roll Call No. 309.

HONORING DEPUTY TERRI SWEETING-MASHKOW2025-12-03

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS. Mr. Speaker, I rise today with a heavy heart to honor the life, service, and sacrifice of Deputy Terri Sweeting-Mashkow of the Indian River County Sheriff's Office, who was tragically slain in the line of duty. Deputy Sweeting-Mashkow served the community with courage, professionalism, and deep compassion. She was the kind of public servant every community hopes for, steadfast in her duty, kind to those in need, and unwavering in her commitment to keeping Indian River County safe. Her loss is felt not only by her brothers and sisters in law enforcement, but by every family she protected, every neighbor she reassured, and every life she touched. Today, we honor not only her heroism, but the legacy she leaves behind. We also hold in our prayers her husband, Casey; her daughter, and her family; and the entire Indian River County Sheriff's Office as they face this heartbreaking tragedy of a person who served our community for over 25 years. May they find strength in knowing that this Nation stands with them as they face this very difficult time. I thank our sheriff in Indian River County, Sheriff Flowers, and his incredible team who put together a dignified funeral yesterday honoring her life. Deputy Terri Sweeting-Mashkow gave her life in service to others. For that, we are forever grateful. I ask my colleagues to join me in honoring her memory and supporting all those who continue to answer the call to protect and serve their communities. Honoring David Long

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS. Mr. Speaker, today I rise to honor the life of David Long, a local locksmith in Indian River County, an Army veteran who was tragically killed in Vero Beach while assisting deputies during a court-ordered eviction. David was simply doing his job, fulfilling a legal obligation, supporting law enforcement, and helping keep the process orderly and safe. By every account, he was a kind, dependable member of the community. He served his country in uniform and continued serving it in civilian life through honest work and quiet professionalism. What happened to him should never happen to anyone. This tragedy is a sobering reminder of the risks that not only our deputies, but our civilians take in working alongside them when they face the realities of simply upholding the law. May we honor his memory by standing firmly with those who keep our communities safe and recognizing that everyday heroes come not always in uniform. We remember David Long today for his service and as a person who makes America the great Nation that it is. May David Long rest in peace. Affordability for American Families

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS. Mr. Speaker, I rise today about this issue of affordability. I find it shocking that the Democrats actually have the gall to talk about the issue of affordability after 4 years of failure: 9 percent inflation, higher interest rates, just challenges across the board for everyday Americans. I think one of the reasons why our party has the majority today is simply because they failed for 4 straight years. They never cut taxes on overtime or tips, let alone Social Security. Republicans did, and we think this is going to help turn around a very challenging situation which we inherited. I look forward to the debate over the next month in how we take down even more prices so Americans can have a more affordable life. This is the challenge of our day. I am glad that we are talking about affordability because for too long Washington, D.C., has turned its back on the issue.

HONORING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF ADMIRAL WAYNE JUSTICE2025-11-19

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor the life and legacy of Admiral Wayne Justice, a dear friend and proud American. Admiral Justice lived a life dedicated to public service not only to our Nation but to our community. Admiral Justice, a graduate of the United States Coast Guard Academy and Navy War College, devoted 37 years of his life to the United States Coast Guard, roughly half in which he was in command conducting counterdrug, illegal immigrant, and search and rescue patrols. Among his many service highlights, he spent 3 years as a military aide to Presidents Bush and Clinton, tasked with potential execution of our nuclear codes. After retiring from the Coast Guard, Admiral Justice continued his commitment to excellence right here at home. As Port Canaveral Commissioner, he championed economic development, maritime safety, and the continued growth of Florida's greatest economic engines. His leadership helped shape the future of our region and his impact will be felt for generations to come. Wayne Justice was far more than a leader. He was a loving husband, father, and a friend, a friend we would like to have. Florida is better because Admiral Justice lived here. Our Coast Guard is stronger because he served. Our community is more united because of the values he embodied. Mr. Speaker, may we carry forward his legacy of service, integrity, and boundless dedication to our Nation. May his family find comfort in knowing that their father, as a husband and as a leader, his kindness will never be forgotten.

HONORING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF JOHN J. MEYERS, III2025-10-03

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS. Mr. Speaker, today I recognize the life and legacy of John J. Meyers, III, a decorated veteran of the United States Navy who passed away on September 14, 2025, at the age of 87 in Sarasota, Florida. John answered the call to serve his country as a naval aviator. He trained in Pensacola, flew with Squadron VS-34 aboard the USS Essex, and later served as an instructor pilot at NAS Meridian. His skill and leadership reflected the very best of our Nation's military tradition. After his service, John carried those same values into civilian life. He built a respected career in aviation and financial services, retiring as a financial advisor at Merrill Lynch in Sarasota. But beyond his profession, he was known for his mentorship and kindness. John J. Meyers lived a life of honor, both in uniform and in his community. Today, we remember him not only for his service to our Nation but for the positive impact he left on those around him. May his memory be a blessing, and may his family find comfort in knowing his legacy of service will endure.

HONORING FRANK JOHN SMITH2025-09-18

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor Frank John Smith. Frank served 4 years in the United States Air Force as Airman Second Class, specializing in communications and navigation reports. His service took him from Japan to Ripley, Tennessee. He and his small team successfully maintained multiple remote communication stations. For his dedication, Frank was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Speaker, on behalf of Florida's Space Coast and Treasure Coast, I thank Frank John Smith for his faithful service to our Nation. His commitment reflects the best of Brevard County and the United States Air Force. Recognizing Space Coast Honor Flight

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS. Mr. Speaker, earlier this month, our office was honored to take part in Space Coast Honor Flight send-off. Veterans from across the Space Coast traveled to Washington and were recognized for their faithful service. I am proud that five members of our district team joined those families and supporters at the Melbourne Orlando International Airport to send off our heroes. These veterans represent each branch of our Armed Services, and their courage and sacrifice are a powerful testament to the freedoms we enjoy today. Mr. Speaker, I thank the Honor Flight organization and volunteers whose work ensures these patriots receive the honorable recognition they deserve. As the son of a veteran and parent of a son who serves in the United States Air Force, on behalf of the Space and Treasure Coast, I thank the veterans and the Active members of our service for their incredible sacrifice. Recognizing Chandler Braid

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to recognize Chandler Braid, founder of Youth Republicans of Brevard, and many members of our community who came together in a recent vigil honoring the late Charlie Kirk. Their gathering reflects the values Charlie Kirk lived by: faith, patriotism, and a commitment to developing the next generation of American leaders. Over 500 community members from across many different towns gathered for this vigil. Charles Kirk will always be remembered as someone who challenged young people to be engaged as citizens and never shy away from standing for their beliefs. The vigil in Brevard County was just one example of many across the globe, showing that his influence will continue to inspire. Mr. Speaker, I thank the Youth Republicans of Brevard, led by Chandler Braid and her amazing leadership. They show that our best days are still ahead. We will always remember Charlie's incredible legacy, patriotism, and love of our country.

HONORING DR. JOE LEE SMITH2025-09-09

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Joe Lee Smith, a beloved leader and friend in Brevard County, who passed away recently at the age of 89. For 36 years, Dr. Smith faithfully served the people of Rockledge on the city council, including chairman and as deputy mayor. Beyond city hall, he was a lifelong educator, coach, assistant principal, dean, and later provost at Eastern Florida State College. He literally shaped a generation. He was a true gentleman who lifted everyone around him. On a personal note, when I started my career back in 1993, he was a mentor and friend and always had a kind word for others. He was truly that leader that we need desperately in America today. Mr. Speaker, on this day we recognize my good friend, Dr. Joe Lee Smith, for his amazing service to our country. Honoring Colonel Casper Berger

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS. Mr. Speaker, today I honor Colonel Casper Berger, a decorated veteran whose service to our Nation spanned World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. A proud Jewish American, Colonel Berger earned the Legion of Merit for his extraordinary service to the United States Army. For years, his daughter, Dr. Susan Berger, worked tirelessly to have her parents' headstone at Arlington National Cemetery corrected. When she reached out to our office, we were proud to assist her family. Working with the Department of the Army, we ensured the replacement was made. Today, their headstone stands as it should, a lasting symbol of a lifetime of service and devotion to their country. Mr. Speaker, may we always remember Colonel Berger's service and his legacy. Honoring Ron DiMenna

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS. Mr. Speaker, today I honor the life and legacy of Ron DiMenna, the founder of Ron Jon Surf Shop. Ron Jon is a landmark that has been a cultural center point in Florida's surf culture and has welcomed generations of visitors since 1963. I have fond memories of bringing my own children there, just as many in our district and around the country know those famous signs along I- 95. Through his hard work and determination, Ron built something lasting and became a symbol of Cocoa Beach itself. On behalf of the people of the Space Coast, we extend our deepest condolences to his family and his loved ones. Mr. Speaker, he made a real legacy in our community. More importantly, he created opportunities for others when no one else saw the vision. We thank him, and may Ron rest in peace. Honoring All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew

Mr. HARIDOPOLOS. Mr. Speaker, today I rise to welcome the visit of a man who holds one of the most ancient and revered positions in Christendom, His All-Holiness Bartholomew, the ecumenical patriarch of Constantinople and the spiritual leader of the Eastern Orthodox Church. His visit stands as a powerful symbol of the enduring role faith plays in a free society. It affirms the place of spiritual leadership in our world. It reflects the ongoing need to uphold religious liberty as a cornerstone of our constitutional order. Mr. Speaker, I warmly welcome him to the United States and thank him for a lifetime of service.
