National Small Business Week (Executive Session)2020-09-23
Mr. RISCH
Mr. RISCH. Mr. President, fellow Senators, I rise today in honor of and to speak about the importance of small businesses--in particular, in relation to National Small Business Week. Idaho's small businesses are the engine that powers our State's economy. They provide us with not only goods and services, local jobs, and growth opportunities, but also immeasurable community value. With the onset and spread of COVID-19, this year has presented Idaho's business owners with challenges not seen in our lifetime. Even under normal circumstances, business ownership takes remarkable courage and commitment. With the pandemic, the challenges associated with entrepreneurship have increased dramatically. Throughout 2020, Idaho's small businesses have shown tremendous determination as they have strived to serve their customers and keep their doors open to people in their communities. During this year's National Small Business Week, I want to take this opportunity to recognize the resilience and courage of small businesses throughout the Gem State and encourage Idahoans to continue to support the local shops, restaurants, and businesses that make our communities vibrant. I firmly believe that small business relief is a shared, bipartisan priority. Here in the Senate, we will continue to work to deliver relief to Idaho's small businesses so that we can get back on the path to recapturing the unprecedented prosperity our economy provided before this crisis began. Idahoans are set apart by their grit, self-reliance, and their deep commitment to community. I am constantly reminded of this and proud of it when I see Idaho's small businesses enduring and supporting one another through these uncertain times.
RECOGNIZING TRINITY AT CITY BEACH2020-09-16
Mr. RISCH
Mr. RISCH. Mr. President, as a member and former chairman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, each month I recognize and celebrate the American entrepreneurial spirit by highlighting the success of a small business in my home State of Idaho. Today I am pleased to honor Trinity at City Beach in Sandpoint as the Idaho Small Business of the Month for September 2020 and recognize them for their efforts to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Established by Justin Dick, Trinity moved to its City Beach location in 2009 and has been an integral part of the Sandpoint community for more than a decade. Named after the holy trinity of peppers, onions, and celery found in traditional Creole cooking, Trinity attracts tourists and locals alike and has developed a reputation for its quality food, service, and views of Lake Pend Oreille. In addition to serving quality southern cuisine, the restaurant also provides dozens of local jobs and enhances the cultural richness of Northern Idaho through their day-to-day service and steady participation in community events. In recent months, Trinity at City Beach has done their part to reduce the spread of COVID-19, offering carryout and dine-in eating to the Sandpoint community while safely maintaining CDC social distancing and face covering guidelines. Additionally, Dick and his team have raised money and collected food to be donated to nonprofit organizations and healthcare centers in the Sandpoint area to help ease the burden on frontline workers. Congratulations to Justin Dick and all of the employees of Trinity at City Beach on being selected as the Idaho Small Business of the Month for September 2020. You make our great State proud, and I look forward to your continued growth and success.

RECOGNIZING MAAG PRESCRIPTION & MEDICAL SUPPLY2020-08-06
Mr. RISCH
Mr. RISCH. Mr. President, as a member and former chairman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, each month I recognize and celebrate the American entrepreneurial spirit by highlighting the success of a small business in my home State of Idaho. Today, I am pleased to honor Maag Prescription & Medical Supply in Pocatello as the Idaho Small Business of the Month for August 2020 and congratulate them on 70 years of business. Maag Prescription & Medical Supply is an independent, locally owned pharmacy which has been operated by the Maag family since 1950. Established by Irvin and Genevieve Maag, the couple ran all aspects of the business and quickly developed a reputation for providing exemplary service while meeting the specific needs of their customers. As the business flourished and ownership transitioned to their son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Kathy Maag, a fire ravaged the facility in 1977. The Maags quickly sprang into action and rebuilt their business across the street with the strong support of the Pocatello community. Forty-three years later, Maag Prescription & Medical Supply remains a staple in Southeast Idaho, providing more than 20 jobs to the community and expanding three times to meet the needs of their customers. Their ability to adapt quickly and meet customer demands has been especially important during the COVID-19 pandemic, with the business now offering curbside pickup, free home delivery of prescriptions and oxygen tanks, and in-house production of hand sanitizer for the community. Their emphasis on customer satisfaction has been central to their continued success. Maag Prescription & Medical Supply's resiliency and service to the community has not gone unnoticed. For the past 2 years, the business received the Idaho State Journal's annual Reader's Choice award. Their business stands as a true testament to American industriousness, exemplifying one of our Nation's most treasured values. Now, in one of the most economically uncertain times, their story reminds us of the importance of commitment to our communities and resilience in the face of adversity. Congratulations to Greg and Kathy Maag and all of the employees of Maag Prescription & Medical Supply on being selected as the Idaho Small Business of the Month for August 2020. You make our great State proud, and I look forward to your continued growth and success.
